If you work in what you perceive to be a much safer environment, like an office or a retail store, you might think you don’t have to worry too much about your employee’s safety. You might think your workplace is just made up of your carefully chosen team, but are you doing enough to protect them from the general public? It’s highly unlikely that your team would know what to do if somebody tried to break into the building or trespass during the working day, so it’s important to find someone who can help keep them safe. If they’re feeling this consistently at work, they might become less motivated to complete their tasks to a high quality or even make them want to look for a new job. While you probably already mark big achievements for the company as a whole, like hitting your sales targets or securing a new client, make sure you also take time to celebrate the individual achievements of all of your team.

Be flexible

You might think the best way to get your employees to do what you want is to be strict with them. To make them feel intimidated and almost scared of you, so they do exactly what you say because they don’t want to find out the consequences of what will happen if they don’t.

In fact, often the opposite is true. If you act more like a friend than a boss and you’re understanding when it comes to your employees asking for favours, they’ll be a lot happier in their work and probably work a lot harder too. The next time one of your team asks to leave early for an important appointment, try and give them that extra time off.
