COVID-19 Crisis: Following Twitter and Facebook, Shopify opts for permanent work from home

The current situation is not in the favourable terms, so many corporates are settling upon permanent Work from Home.
Recently, an announcement was made by microblogging platform, Twitter, stated that it will allow employees work from home permanently. With this, social media platform Facebook and Canadian e-commerce website Shopify have also chosen permanent work from home for their employees.

With an inception of coronavirus pandemic, many corporates opted for Work from Home due to strict Stay at Home regulations. This has been done not only for the continuity of work but also to follow social distancing norms. However, the current situation is not in the favourable terms, so many corporates are settling upon permanent Work from Home.

Recently, an announcement was made by microblogging platform, Twitter, stated that it will allow employees work from home permanently. With this, social media platform Facebook and Canadian e-commerce website Shopify have also chosen permanent work from home for their employees.

Tobi Lutke, CEO of Shopify, announced in a tweet, “As of today, Shopify is a digital by default company. We will keep our offices closed until 2021 so that we can rework them for this new reality. And after that, most will permanently work remotely. Office centricity is over,”

When corporates were forced to operate from home, many companies redesigned their strategies so they realised that work can actually be carried out without resuming offices. Therefore, they have made an announcement for permanent work from home option.

Facebook too has made an announcement for its employees in a major chunk allowing permanent work from home. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg informed that about half of the company’s strength can work from entirely for the coming 5-10 years. He also added, “The reality is that I don’t think it’s going to be that we wake up one day on January first and nobody has any more concerns about this,”

But MNC tech company, Microsoft, is not joining this bandwagon. Although, Microsoft was the first company that allowed its employees to do work from home in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, expressed that permanent work from home can impact the mental health of an employee. He further explained, “What I miss is when you walk into a physical meeting, you are talking to the person that is next to you, you’re able to connect with them for the two minutes before and after,”

पहली बार, 370 मिलियन ग्राहकों के साथ टॉप दूरसंचार ऑपरेटर जियो अब रणनीतिक निवेश के लिए अपनी हिस्सेदारी को कम करेगा। बता दें कि, मुकेश अंबानी की अगुवाई वाली रिलायंस इंडस्ट्री लिमिटेड ने अब तक सहायक कंपनी में $ 25 बिलियन से अधिक की पूंजी लगाई है।

मार्क जुकरबर्ग के नेतृत्व वाली कंपनी भी जियो (Jio) के साथ प्रारंभिक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर करने के करीब थी। फाइनेंशियल टाइम्स में छपी एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, कोरोनोवायरस महामारी के कारण दुनिया भर में हुए यात्रा प्रतिबंध की वजह से इस समझौते को आगे स्थगित कर दिया है।

जियो में हिस्सेदारी हासिल करने के लिए कई अरब डॉलर का सौदा होने की संभावना है जैसे कि सैनफोर्ड सी, बर्नस्टीन एंड कंपनी, एलएलसी ने दूरसंचार कंपनी को $ 60 बिलियन से अधिक का मूल्य दिया था।

माना जा रहा है कि, रिलायंस जियो के लिए यह हिस्सेदारी की बिक्री काफी महत्वपूर्ण होगी, क्योंकि कंपनी 2021 तक अपने अधिकांश कर्ज का भुगतान करना चाहती है। कंपनी ने वित्त वर्ष 2019 में लगभग 1,450 करोड़ रुपये के कुल कर्ज की रिपोर्ट की थी और वित्त वर्ष 2021 के अंत तक इसके 1,700 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक तक पहुंचने का अंदाजा लगाया गया था।

बर्नस्टीन के विश्लेषक, नील बेवरिज और क्रिस लेन के अनुसार, आरआईएल (रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज लिमिटेड) की पूर्ण स्वामित्व वाली सहायक कंपनी को अगले साल लाभ होने की उम्मीद है, और वित्त वर्ष 2023 तक यह आरआईएल के सबसे बड़े एबिटा योगदानकर्ता बनने के ऊर्जा व्यवसाय से आगे निकल जाएगी।

टेलिकॉम के अलावा जियो कंपनी, UPI के माध्यम से डिजिटल भुगतान, म्यूजिक स्ट्रीमिंग ऐप जियो सावन (Jio Saavn), किराना प्लेटफॉर्म जियो मार्ट (JioMart), ऑन-डिमांड टीवी सेवा जियो टीवी (JioTv) जैसे कई अन्य उत्पादों का एक समूह है।

हाल ही में, जियो ने सरकार से 5G परीक्षण करने की अनुमति के लिए आवेदन किया था। अगर इसके लिए अनुमति दी जाती है, तो जियो खुद के द्वारा विकसित प्रौद्योगिकी और डिजाइन के आधार पर 5G सेवाओं की पेशकश करने वाली पहली कंपनी होगी।

आपको बता दें कि, फेसबुक के लिए यह निवेश भारत में तीसरा निवेश होगा। पिछले नौ महीनों में, इसने सोशल कॉमर्स स्टार्टअप मीशो में 25 मिलियन डॉलर का निवेश किया था और एडटेक स्टार्टअप अनसैकेडमी में लगभग 15 मिलियन डॉलर का निवेश किया था।

1. Believe in your idea

If you don’t have faith in your idea, no one else will. In the early stages of Facebook, Zuckerberg was running it from his own dorm room with his friends. Initially, Estavez, a partner, wanted facebook to garner more money from ads but Zuckerberg outright denied because he wanted it to first gain popularity and then allow publicity stunts on the website.

This contributed greatly to Facebook’s initial success.

2. Own your venture

A lot of companies like Yahoo wanted to buy Facebook and offered great sums of money to Zuckerberg. But he believed that he could make his big idea work by himself and refused to sell it. Soon, as the site gained popularity and Peter Thiel, the founder of PayPal invested $500,000, and the amount was sufficient for immediate Facebook purposes. For further development of Facebook, Zuckerberg needed more investments. Accel Partners invested in Facebook $12.7 million and then Greylock Partners added to this amount $27.5 million.

So, with major investments he managed to own and run his business.

3. Be ready to give in your everything

He might be one of the most successful entrepreneurs everybody wants to emulate but he has definitely put in a lot of hard work no outsider could fathom. He had his vision set from the beginning and after Facebook started gaining popularity, he decided to drop out of Harvard to devote all his time to the venture as he was aware that he couldn’t make it bigger with limited time in his hands.



4. Aim big

Facebook started as a connection site for only Harvard students. Soon, it expanded to other colleges as well.
The next idea that he developed on would be the one that changed how people networked socially through the internet. In less than a year after it was founded more than 1 million people joined the social network.

Later, Zuckerberg also bought giants like WhatsApp and Instagram to expand his share the social networking world.

5. Be ruthless

In Harvard, Divya Narendra, and twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss asked him to help them to work on an idea for a social networking site they called Harvard Connection. This site was designed to use information from Harvard’s student networks in order to create a dating site for the Harvard elite.

Zuckerberg soon dropped out and started his own venture. He created a site that allowed users to create their own profiles, upload photos, and communicate with other users. Zuckerberg was soon accused of cheating the Winklevoss twins and Narendra’s idea and ConnectU’s secure code. This law suit was settled as the three received a hefty sum of $65 million and Zuckerberg continued with Facebook.

The lesson learnt from this is no matter how hard you might have to fight, never give up on your dreams or venture.

6. Stay focused at the end goal

Even after a million accusations and lawsuits, Zuckerberg was always focused at his end goal- to make a social networking site so huge that the whole world would use it. To accomplish this, he believed he along with his team would be the best persons. So, instead of walking away with the billion dollars offered by Yahoo, Zuckerberg worked relentlessly to make his idea work even though there was always a risk factor involved. Hence, all entrepreneurs could learn to be focused on their targets like Zuckerberg.
