5 Bengaluru-based startups which are hugely successful

Bengaluru, often referred to as the Mecca of startups in the country has seen a steep rise in the number of startups cropping up in the past five years. Some startups manage to make it big while some fizzle out owing to various factors. But, some startups have definitely managed to carve a niche for themselves across the country.

Here are a few Bengaluru based startups which are industry dominators currently:

1. Redbus.in


The popular bus booking app’s main objective is to provide convenience to customers while they book their ticket from home via the internet. It was launched in 2005 by Phanindra Sama, Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri. The company was acquired by Ibibo in 2013 for a whopping sum of $135 million. Redbus’ motive from the start has been ‘Learn, Implement, Grow and have fun’.

2. UrbanLadder


This website founded by Ashish Goel (CEO & co-founder) and Rajiv Srivatsa (COO & co-founder), changed the face of online furniture shopping in the country. Whilst people were apprehensive about ordering furniture online, Urban Ladder gave them the option to customise furniture as per their needs and choices. Since 2012, this website aspires to provide home solutions to people across the country and maintain honesty and transparency in every transaction.

3. Practo

practoFounded by Shashank ND & Abhinav Lal in 2008, this is a popular listing site which rates clinics and doctors. This is a unique concept which solves a major problem of decision making of the customers. They can now read reviews by other people about a doctor and book appointments via this Practo.com.

Doctors use Practo Ray, a Saas software to manage their practice.

4. Ola Cabs

Olacabs, the most popularly used cab services in India originated in Bengaluru as well. It was founded by Bhavish Aggarwal & Ankit Bhati in 2011. Initially, the plan was to provide people with easy cab booking services. The convenience, reasonable pricing and thehuge availability of cabs was what made the app so popular. Currently, Ola has expanded and is offering shared cabs, shuttle services, outstation services, autos and rental services as well.

5. Flipkart


Last but not the least, Flipkart founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal in 2007 also has its headquarters in Bengaluru as well. It offers products across all categories and has cash on delivery option for almost all products. The e-commerce site had recently acquired other fashion sites like Jabong and Myntra which helped it acquire the largest e-commerce share in the country. Flipkart’s popularity can be judged by the fact that it recently crossed the 100 million customer mark.
